Tupper Arts is thrilled to present a special showcase of watercolor artwork by local artist Michael Burpoe, whose plein air and Adirondack lifestyle paintings capture the unique spirit of the region. Born and raised in nearby Saranac Lake, Michael is a self-taught watercolorist whose work is deeply influenced by both his upbringing in the Adirondacks and his travels around the world.

A graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Michael honed his artistic skills through his study of graphic design, but it wasn’t until 2020—amidst the isolation of the pandemic—that he turned to watercolor as a form of solace and expression. His work offers a personal and heartfelt glimpse into his experiences, from the misty canals of Amsterdam to the vibrant cityscapes of Buenos Aires and the serene roads of Kyoto. However, it is the people and culture of the Adirondacks that remain his truest inspiration.

Throughout the month of May, experience Michael’s plein air works and intimate portraits that celebrate the daily lives and traditions of those who call the Adirondacks home. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about his journey as an artist and his unique connection to the region.

Michael, who recently joined the Adirondack Artists Guild in January 2025, will have an installation of his work at Tupper Arts, allowing visitors to explore his distinctive style and technique up close.
